SAFEGUARDING EMPHASIS

Safeguarding for our charity involves  a number of specific areas including:

  • The safe recruitment and checking of Interns for the safety of other Interns, and for those to whom they will act as pastoral workers. All Interns have to go through the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) and further vetting.

  • The safe recruitment of chaplains. Our chaplains are licensed ministers of the Church of England who undergo DBS vetting and regular safeguarding training up to c3 level.

  • The delivery of safeguarding training [to level 1] for Interns, with a special emphasis on avoiding spiritual abuse in small communities. We have used the Church of England's guidelines for religious communities as a basis for training.

  • The mental and physical wellbeing of Interns is important to us, as any community by its nature can be an intense and testing experience.
